STD Panel 7 is the basic screening test recommended for anyone who is concerned about sexual health/sexual wellness. This panel can act as a complete approach for most common STD/STI pathogens that can be diagnosed with real-time PCR with urine samples. Real-time PCR refers to polymerase chain reaction and is one type of NAAT test and is highly considered accurate and reliable.
What is STD panel 7 ?
While STD/ STI tests can be done as standalone tests, the cost can be relatively high, and the reliability can be challenging, as some may or may not know what tests are to be executed. In this context STD panel 7 acts as a moderate screening panel for peace of mind from the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases/sexually transmitted infections.
Infections Detected in STD Panel 7
- Chlamydia trachomatis (CT)
a common bacterial infection causing infertility if untreated - Mycoplasma genitalium (MG)
associated with urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic infections - Treponema pallidum (TP)
the bacterium that causes syphilis - Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU)
associated with urethritis and reproductive health issues - Mycoplasma hominis (MH)
linked to reproductive tract infections and complications in pregnancy - Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1)
causes oral and sometimes genital herpes - Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2)

How long do results take?
STD panel 7 results typically take 24-48 hours, and in some case scenarios you can get the results before the TAT, as the type of pathogens being tested are very common and can be detected early. However, it's safe to identify the TAT as 24-48 hours, as the tests are being carried out for identifying organisms such as bacteria and viruses via polymerase chain reactions. Hence the overall turnaround time of 24–48 hours ensures accuracy, validation, and reliability of the results.
When Should You Get Tested? (Incubation Period)
The incubation period can be varied per the test/pathogen we are referring to. Yet considering the STD panel 7 as a whole, for accurate detection, it’s ideal to wait at least 3 to 5 days post exposure to proceed with tests. Testing too early can leave the infections undetected, as they can still be in their incubation phase. Usually if it has been 21-28 days since the encounter, the test will provide more accurate and reliable results.
